Schellensfabriek Expo
Exhibition
The Schellens Factory is an old textile factory in the city
centre of Eindhoven, which was put out of operation in early 2009. Creative housing foundation Stichting Ruimte brought the building back to life in 2010 by allowing creative entrepreneurs and initiatives room to develop. This was the case during DDW 2010 and once again in 2011.
Apart from an exhibition by Onomatopee, several young and talented designers from the Eindhoven region are showing their work here. In the large main hall, the former weaving mill, they present their work in the way they think explains it best. This enthusiastic group of people is not impeded by many do’s and don’ts. After all, creatives tend to think for themselves rather well. Although the emphasis is on product design, also concept-based ideas and objects are part of the exhibition in this atmospheric industrial
building.
Stichting Ruimte started off in 2008 offering small-scale
working environments for creative entrepreneurs in the city of Eindhoven. Studios for artists, and designers of course, are usually hard to find in the traditional real estate and property market. In the past three years, Stichting
Ruimte has helped hundreds of creative start-ups to find a place in Eindhoven.
